Citizens' Convention on Mining 2020
Global Rights Alert in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Civil Society Organizations of Action Aid Uganda, Transparency International Uganda, Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment and Uganda Association of Small Scale Miners among have organised the fourth annual CCM scheduled for September 24, 2020.Running under the theme “Sustainable Development of Mineral Wealth in East Africa”, The Convention is to enable forward looking engagement and discussions on resuscitation of the mining sub-sector following collapse of commodities’ prices and the COVID-19 pandemic among other challenges.
Specifically, the convention shall:
- Provide a platform for learning and information sharing amongst actors in the mineral sub-sector in East Africa.
- Create a platform for citizens to deliberate on the issues affecting the mining sub-sector and shape the sector’s governance framework.
- Promote accountability and transparency by enabling all stakeholders to have a round table conversation with a bias on the current extractives Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) standards
