Africa's Energy 2045 Outlook - The Role of Citizen Agency

Oct 7th, 2025
Uganda

Global Rights Alert (GRA) in 2016 convened the first ever flagship Citizens Convention on Extractives (CCE), a unique annual, citizen-accountability platform that has since attracted over 13 co-conveners including government agencies, civil society, community groups and private sector.

Since then, the CCE has steadily advanced accountability, collaboration and dialogue in shaping the natural resource governance in Uganda and beyond, bringing together over 200+ diverse stakeholders. Today, the CCE seeks to address a number of interesting challenges; Firstly, the energy access for Uganda and Africa's growth remains fundamental with increased investment in fossil fuel.

This 8th CCE seeks to focus on "Africa's energy 2045 outlook: The role of Citizen Agency" and place the role of the CCE into this vision. The 8th CCE will convene a one day exclusive (physical) convention of 100 thought leaders and practitioners in Energy, Extractives, Finance, Media and Communities to understand Africa' energy trajectory in the next 20 years.
